Submissions to the Northern Photography Prize – ‘Spirit of the North East’ or Northern Photography Prize – ‘Heart of the North East’ are welcomed from:

• Amateur* photographers whose work celebrates the North East**; and,
• At the time of entering, are aged eighteen or above.

*For the purposes of these awards, ‘amateur’ means someone who takes photographs for their own pleasure and is not being compensated on any consistent basis for their photographic work.
** For the purposes of these awards, ‘North East’ is defined as covering the following areas:

• Darlington
• Durham and County Durham
• Gateshead
• Hartlepool
• Middlesbrough
• Newcastle upon Tyne
• North Tyneside
• Northumberland
• Redcar and Cleveland
• South Tyneside
• Stockton-on-Tees
• Sunderland
